Youth art fundraising exhibition featuring pets opens Friday

Hinovations Art Gallery is collaborating with young art students, professional artists of the Rio Grande Valley and Yaqui Animal Rescue during the “Pets for Art” group exhibition fundraiser, which opens from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at 1009 Laurel Ave. in McAllen. There is no admission fee and the public is invited. The exhibition will showcase a series of pet portraits created by the students and a collection of artworks by local and international artists with the means of raising funds for Yaqui through the sale of the work.   Read the full story at themonitor.com.

Longtime IBC banker celebrates 50 years in industry this year

This week IBC Bank announced the retirement of Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Dora Brown. She has been employed with IBC Bank for 30 years, overseeing the advertising, public relations, community outreach, and financial education efforts for IBC Bank-McAllen. In 1996, Brown was the leading force behind the creation of Minitropolis, IBC Bank’s signature financial literacy program that provides students an opportunity to experience how a community operates by giving them a variety of real-world positions in mini stores and mini-city government. “Dora has been a dedicated and trusted executive of our company. Illinois to hold memorial ceremony for Spc. Miguel Villalon

Aurora, Illinois, will hold a memorial ceremony next week to honor U.S. Army Spc. Miguel Villalon, the former East Aurora High School student killed earlier this month by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan. Villalon’s parents will bury their 21-year-old son Saturday in his family’s hometown of Brownsville.
