Police mum on shooting death at McAllen motel

Records: Suspect had outstanding child sex charges

McALLEN — A day after a man died as a result of being shot, little remains known about the 23-year-old suspect and motive for the shooting.

Vicente Gonzalez Coronado, who was booked Monday evening, remains in a Hidalgo County jail on a more than $1 million bond.

The Pharr man faces several charges in addition to murder, including evading arrest, and possession of marijuana charge, jail records show. He is also being held without bond on three charges of sex with a child out of the 389th District Court related to an Aug. 8, 2018 accusation of sexual assault.

Coronado was arrested Monday in connection with the shooting death of Noel Jesus Valenzuela, 28, who police identified late Tuesday morning.

At about 11 a.m. Monday, police officers responded to the Motel 6 near the 1500 block of Eighth Street and found Valenzuela suffering from at least one gunshot wound. He was transported to an area hospital where he later died.

Police said they had detained Coronado in connection with the shooting and that charges were pending.

If convicted of murder, a first degree felony, Coronado faces up to life in prison.
