Boys and Girls Club of Mission finds new director

MISSION — The Boys and Girls Club of Mission has found a new leader.

On October 31, Jose “JJ” Guerrero began as the new executive director of the club.

“He’s a great fit for the city and we are excited to have him at the helm,” Mayor Dr. Armando O’Caña said. “The Bannworth Gym expansion is now complete and is leading the charge to get registration going there and making it our second full service facility. I know he will continue to do good things for the children and families in Mission.”

Guererro, a Mission native, brings to the table years of experience in administration; he served with the evangelical church where he started the foundation Ciudad de Refugio in Cochabamba, Bolivia, to aid orphans, the homeless and battered women and children.

“The Boys and Girls Club of Mission is a staple in this community. So many people in this town are products of our organization,” Guerrero said. “The club has great support from the community and board members. When the opportunity arose, I was eager to accept the position and I know great things are coming.”

Hoping to expand the number of programs available for the club, Guerrero expressed that one of his main goals will be program development.

“I want to see quality staff giving a quality education, in our quality facilities. My plan is to continue to grow the Boys and Girls Club of Mission,” Guerrero said. “I am going to focus on helping families grow closer together. Our Mission kids are the future of this community and in reality, they are the future of this country.”
