Woman to be arraigned on murder charge Tuesday afternoon

EDINBURG — A woman here faces a first degree murder charge after she allegedly shot and killed her husband Sunday evening, Edinburg police said in a news release Monday.

Karla Marlen DeLeon is scheduled to be arraigned on one count of murder Tuesday afternoon at the Edinburg Municipal court days after police say she shot and killed Hector Raisel De Leon during a disturbance at a residence in the 700 block of East Russell Road in Edinburg.

Police responded to the aforementioned residence at about 6:40 p.m. Sunday.

According to the release from Edinburg Police, the disturbance was between Hector DeLeon, 48, and his wife, Karla Marlen, 47.

Police said the disturbance “escalated,” and ended with Karla Marlen allegedly gaining possession of a revolver and shooting her husband.

Hector DeLeon was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after police arrived.

“The Edinburg Police Department will continue to educate victims and involved parties of domestic violence to deter sad situations like this from occurring. We are always implementing new programs through our new Crime Victim liaison,” the release states.
