PHARR — Fire officials are investigating a deadly fire that occurred here Saturday morning.
At 7:23 a.m., Pharr firefighters responded to the 800 block of North Tierra Drive, where a fire had been reported. Firefighters were told two men, whose identities are still unavailable, were trapped inside of the home.
“Our firefighters made a valiant effort to go inside. They were able to get them out — both individuals, and work on them,” Chief Leonard Perez said. “By work I mean they started CPR, giving them medical attention along with Hidalgo EMS and they were transported quickly to the hospital.”
However, after being transported, one of the individuals died. The other man was transported to a San Antonio hospital.
Perez credited the work of his firefighters for “being able to go in there and pull them out … they tried really hard to save them.”
Perez said the cause of the fire is under investigation as authorities question witnesses.
