Road closures announced for McAllen Holiday Parade

The city of McAllen has announced the road closures for the annual McAllen Holiday Parade, which is scheduled for Saturday evening.

The road closures are being conducted in phases.

The city began phase one of the closures at 12 p.m. Friday, beginning with Quince Avenue, from 23rd Street to Bicentennial Boulevard, Tamarack Avenue, from 23rd Street to Bicentennial Boulevard, the intersection of Quince Avenue and 21st Street, and Vine Avenue (Bulldog Drive), from 23rd Street to Bicentennial Boulevard.

Road closures will continue with phase two on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. with La Vista Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 16th Street (soft closure), Tamarack Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street, Bicentennial Boulevard, from La Vista Avenue to Pecan Avenue, and the intersection of Bicentennial Boulevard and 23rd Street.

Phase three of the closures will begin at 10 a.m. with Bicentennial Boulevard, from Pecan Avenue to Hackberry Avenue, Tamarack Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street, Maple Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street, Laurel Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street, Jasmine Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street, and Ivy Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street.

The city will continue with phase four of the road closures at 12 p.m. with Bicentennial Boulevard, from Hackberry Avenue to Business 83, Gumwood Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street, Fir Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street, Ebony Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street, Date Palm Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street, Cedar Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street, and Beech Avenue, from Bicentennial Boulevard to 17th Street.

Phase five of road closures will begin from 1 to 2 p.m. with Pecan Avenue, from 23rd Street to 16th Street, the intersection of 22nd Street and Pecan Avenue, the intersection of 21st Street and Pecan Avenue, Hackberry Avenue, from 19th Street to 17th Street, Business 83, from 23rd Street to 17th Street, the intersection of 22nd Street and Business 83, the intersection of 21st Street and Business 83, the intersection of 20th Street and Business 83, and Bicentennial Boulevard, from Business 83 to Austin Avenue.

The final phase of road closures will begin from 3 to 4 p.m. with 23rd Street and Pecan Street closed to northbound traffic to Nolana Avenue, 24th Street and Quince Avenue closed to eastbound traffic, 24th ½ Street and Quince Avenue closed to eastbound traffic, 24th Street and Sycamore Avenue closed to eastbound traffic, 24th Street and La Vista Avenue closed to eastbound traffic, Bicentennial Boulevard closed to all traffic from Nolana Avenue to Houston Avenue, and 21st Street and La Vista Avenue closed to southbound traffic.

“In order to avoid the rush and traffic, parade organizers encourage all attendees to plan on arriving early to the parade and festival location and to realize that travel and parking near the stadium will be closed,” read a news release. “To resolve this issue, the City of McAllen Metro McAllen will provide a free park & ride shuttle that will transport attendees from South Texas College, located at 29th St. and Pecan Boulevard, to the parade and festival location, beginning at 12 PM and running continuously every 20 minutes until 12 AM.”

Buses will be running a continuous loop from the pick-up location at STC, at 31st Street and Quince Avenue, to the parade drop off/ pick up point at Quince Avenue and 23rd Street.

People with disabilities are encouraged to use the ADA shuttle pick-up location from 31st Street and FM 495. Strollers and service dogs are welcome.
