Elderly man struck by bullet that ricocheted from Edinburg PD gun range

EDINBURG — A stray bullet from an Edinburg Police Department gun range struck an elderly man on Friday, but the injury does not appear to be serious, at least according to Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra.

On Friday evening, the sheriff issued a statement on Twitter confirming that a shooting incident reported in North Edinburg had originated from the Edinburg PD gun range.

Guerra wrote that deputies responded to a site near the intersection of Kenyon and Richardson Road at about 4:27 p.m., where they discovered that the reported shots were coming from the Edinburg police gun range.

An elderly man was struck by what Guerra said was a ricocheted stray bullet, “but did not penetrate the skin.”

The man’s condition wasn’t clear as of press time; however, the sheriff indicated that the injury does not appear to be serious.
