Mission set to bring in the holiday season this weekend

The city of Mission will begin the holiday season with the Mayor’s Annual Tree Lighting event.

The event will be free to the public and will take place at Leo Peña Placita Park on Friday and Saturday. The park is located at the corner of Business 83 and Conway Avenue in Mission.

The event is scheduled to run from 6 to 9 p.m. Guests can catch Santa’s arrival and the lighting of the Christmas Tree at 6:30 p.m.

The hours are different for Saturday, as the event begins at 3 p.m. and ends at 9 p.m.

“The holiday season is so special because it is a time when our community comes together with friends and family to celebrate peace, love and joy. We are honored to host these festivities in our great city,” Mayor Armando O’Caña said in a news release.

Both days will be filled with entertainment, including choir performances, moon jumps and games.

The event will also feature life-sized Christmas cards for photos, food and craft vendors, and a toy raffle.

“We invite our citizens to join us as we celebrate the holidays,” O’Caña said.
