The 2019 Sharyland High School FFA Agriculture Mechanics Team ran away with top honors at this year’s State Fair of Texas Livestock Show, the school announced in a news release.
The team earned first place in the Barbecue Pits and Smokers – Pull Type Division at the event October 15 in Dallas. Additionally, the team was named Champion of the Recreational Projects Division, as well as Overall Grand Champion of the 2019 State Fair of Texas Youth Agriculture Mechanics Show.
The project kicked off in December 2018 and took some 700 hours to complete, with work being done before, during and after school, as well as on weekends. Partcipants took away from this skills including custom aluminum fabrication, Gas Metal Arc Welding, American Welding Society Code, cutting/fitting metal, and plasma arc cutting.
