Alamo man pleads guilty to accident involving death

EDINBURG — A 22-year-old man admitted to hitting and killing 42-year-old San Juan resident Luis De Leon Jr. a little more than a year ago.

Andrew Isaiah Villarreal entered a guilty plea Wednesday morning to a charge of accident involving death.

According to a probable cause affidavit, San Juan police observed Villarreal drive around an object in the road in the 2000 block of North Raul Longoria Road at 12:15 a.m. on Sept. 25, 2018.

When police approached the object, they discovered De Leon, who was riding a black and neon bicycle. The man died at the scene.

“(Villarreal) told police he had collided with an unknown object in the road in the area of Raul Longoria Road, passing Sioux Road,” the complaint read, stating that Villarreal’s passenger thought they hit a dog.

Villarreal left the scene of the accident.
