The city is hosting yet another Coffee with the Mayor event next week as the municipal election draws near.
Mayor Richard Molina and city staff will be on hand Tuesday at Mario’s Supermarket, 5120 N. Doolittle Road., to hear from constituents from 9 to 11 a.m.
The event gives residents the opportunity to voice their concerns and speak directly with the mayor, who has been under scrutiny for about two years for his alleged voter fraud scheme.
The event also comes at the heels of another election.
Residents will head to the polls Nov. 5 to elect council members for Place 3 and 4, as well as a municipal judge.
That election, however, will not be overseen by Edinburg City Secretary Ludivina Leal because Leal is also accused of participating in the mayor’s alleged voter fraud plot. Leal was arrested earlier this year, forcing the council to strip her of her election duties.
Instead, anything election-related will be handled by Assistant City Manager Tom Reyna. Reyna was named the point of contact between the city and the Hidalgo County Elections Office last month.
The city also continues to negotiate a contract with the county, which will run the municipal elections.
