Gov. Greg Abbott reappointed McAllen optometrist Fred Farias III to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, which “provides leadership and coordination for the Texas higher education system.”
Farias, a board member since 2015, is currently vice chairman of the board, chairman of the Academic and Workforce Success Committee and a member of the Texas Higher Education Foundation.
A University of Texas-Austin graduate, Farias has also been involved in several of the university’s boards. Farias also graduated from Southern College of Optometry.
Among the Coordinating Board’s responsibilities, it approves all new degree programs offered Texas public universities.
