McAllen chamber names new tourism lead

The McAllen Chamber of Commerce named Robert Lopez as the new Vice President of Visit McAllen and the chamber’s Convention and Visitors Bureau, Chamber President Steve Ahlenius announced.

Lopez served as the organization’s director of sales for seven years and has worked in the hospitality industry for 14 years.

“Robert brings leadership, key core values, selling and a new perspective on innovative ideas and opportunities for the CVB,” Ahlenius said in a statement. “He has earned this opportunity, and he is a great fit for the direction we need to go.”

Lopez replaces longtime CVB Vice President Nancy Millar, who retired earlier this year.

“I’m grateful for this opportunity, and I embrace the challenges that come along with my new position,” Lopez said in a statement. “McAllen’s tourism industry is evolving rapidly, and our goal at Visit McAllen is to build on the positive momentum we’ve created by constantly innovating our approach.”

The news release announcing Lopez’s new job said as director of sales, Lopez accounted for 73% of the total hotel room nights generated by Visit McAllen, with an estimated economic impact of $73,054,182. Lopez is also known for his “3 Shots 3 Questions” videos on YouTube, the “interview-style web series where tequila is always the answer.”
