No foul play is suspected in the deaths of two men and one woman whose bodies were found in the brush south of U.S. Route 83 and El Faro Rd. near Sullivan City on Thursday.
According to a post on their Facebook page, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office responded to the location just before noon on September 19. Deputies met with border patrol agents who explained that they were in the area searching for a group of individuals who entered the country illegally when they discovered the bodies in a brushy area.
The post says sheriff’s investigators and crime scene specialists responded to the scene to interview witnesses and process the scene. One male and one female were found together; a second male was found about 100 yards away from the pair. Authorities found no sign of foul play or visible trauma on any of the victims.
An autopsy was performed the next day, the post states. The cause and manner of death are pending and will require further analysis. The victim’s identities and nationalities have not been confirmed either.
According to the post, the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office frequently responds to incidents like this due to the area’s extreme heat and harsh terrain. The sheriff’s office has investigated 18 deaths in similar instances this year.
