A 37-year-old Penitas man was arraigned on Thursday afternoon after he admitted to exposing himself to two teenage girls.
David Garza, who is not a U.S. citizen, was arraigned at the Hidalgo County Adult Detention Facility on two counts of indecency with a child by exposure, a third-degree felony. Garza rarely made eye contact with Judge Jason Peña as he read his charges, for which he received two $125,000 bonds.
According to a news release, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Deputies were called to rural Mission on Aug. 30 in reference to a man exposing himself.
Sheriff’s Deputies made contact with a 17-year-old girl who reported that a man driving a white car exposed himself to her as she waited for the school bus. In the news release, she claimed that the suspect stopped in front of her home and asked her for directions. As the girl approached the vehicle, she saw that the man’s pants were lowered to his knees and he was touching his genitals.
Nearly two weeks later, on Sept. 12, a second report was made involving a man driving a white SUV and exposing himself to a young girl. The news release stated that a 15-year-old girl was walking home when she noticed that a white SUV had driven up beside her. It was at this time that the suspect asked her for directions. As the girl approached the vehicle, she saw that the man was exposing and touching his genitals.
According to the news release, investigators were able to locate a vehicle matching the description provided by the victims.
A traffic stop was conducted and Garza was identified as the driver. Garza was taken to the Sheriff’s Office to be interviewed, where he later provided a voluntary statement admitting to exposing himself to both victims. He had no previous criminal history.
