Person of interest identified in deadly Donna rollover

The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified a person of interest in Thursday’s deadly rollover in Donna.

DPS troopers are searching for Donna resident Mateo Cristante-Gonzalez, 37, in connection with the crash that left Fernando Arellano dead.

The rollover involved a single vehicle traveling on Mile 11 ½ east of FM 493 in Donna on Thursday night. According to a DPS news release, a 2004 tan Grand Marquis carrying two male passengers and the driver, also a male, was traveling westbound when the driver lost control.

Arellano, a resident of Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene while the other male passenger was transported to McAllen Medical Center and released later that evening.

The driver of the Grand Marquis, believed to be Cristante-Gonzalez, left the scene of the crash, according to DPS.

Troopers are currently asking the public for information on Cristante-Gonzales’s whereabouts. He is reported to have suffered major head injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.
