Investigators continue search for suspect in child porn case

A Roma man accused of possessing child pornography remains on the run as investigators with the Starr County Special Crimes Unit continue to work the case of tracking down those involved in the crime.

The man, 20-year-old Apolonio Garcia IV, was questioned on April 25 about a video displaying child pornography that was shared on social media. Garcia is accused of viewing and downloading the video, according to Roberto Treviño, a police officer with the Rio Grande City school district who is assigned to the Special Crimes Unit as an investigator.

Garcia is facing two counts of possession or promotion of child pornography but investigators have not been able to locate him since April.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children were notified of the video and forwarded information to the Texas Attorney General’s Office. The AG’s office then sent the report to the Special Crimes Unit for further investigation.

On the day Garcia was questioned, the SCU also executed a search warrant at his residence where the investigators recovered electronic devices that allegedly contained child pornography. From that content, investigators said they identified a local victim.

Investigators added that one of the other victims appeared to be a toddler, stressing the importance of apprehending Garcia.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can contact SCU at (956) 487-8892.
