Elsa man gets 25 years in prison for child sexual assault

An Elsa man was sentenced to a 25-year prison sentence in connection with child sexual assault charges, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the Hidalgo County District Attorney’s Office.

On Aug. 19, Judge Israel Ramon of the 430th state District Court sentenced Arnoldo Reyes to the term after he pleaded guilty to abusing at least two kids.

Ramon sentenced the Elsa man to 25 years for the first count, aggravated sexual assault of a child, and a 20-year sentence for sexual assault of a child — to be served concurrently, according to the release.

The 46-year-old man was arrested in January by Elsa police officers.

According to the DA’s office, the victims were 6 and 15 years old.

The alleged abuse took place in January 2014 and 2015, and November 2018 through the time of his arrest on Jan. 10, court records show.

“Bringing justice to victims of child abuse is a top priority for our office,” District Attorney Ricardo Rodriguez said in the release. “I commend Assistant District Attorney Hope Palacios as well as the police officers, investigators, victim advocates, and prosecutors who worked on the case.”

Report child abuse by calling (800) 252-5400. The hotline is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, according to the DA’s office.
