CBP: 50 rounds fired at Border Patrol marine unit near Fronton

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said a U.S. Border Patrol marine unit was shot at early Friday morning, according to an agency news release.

Border Patrol agents assigned to the marine unit patrolling the Rio Grande City station area, which is near Fronton, reported taking fire from the Mexican side on the riverbank, the release read.

“Agents saw four subjects with automatic weapons who shot over 50 rounds at them. The boat was hit several times but no one on board was injured,” CBP stated in the release.

No other information was provided except to state an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
