‘South Pole of Texas’ set as McAllen parade theme following gubernatorial designation

The award-winning McAllen Holiday Parade announced its 2019 theme Wednesday via a morning news conference at the city’s convention center.

State Rep. Bobby Guerra presented “an important message from Governor Abbott and the Texas legislature,” he said, and officially recognized McAllen as “the South Pole of Texas,” which serves as this year’s theme.

The city also announced the state’s largest illuminated and helium balloon parade is growing with a new attraction called Frio, which includes real snow, a two-story toboggan-style ride, “A Christmas Story” style escape room, gingerbread decorating, snowman-building and more.

More announcements are expected next month for the December event.
