The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation appointed Ruben Ramirez, an attorney and a city council liaison for the city of Edinburg, as interim executive director for the board Friday afternoon.
This decision comes after Plinio “Joey” Treviño resigned from his position as executive director earlier this week. EEDC board members also formally accepted Treviño’s resignation during the special meeting.
EEDC board President Jorge Salinas said the board and Treviño have decided to go their own ways.
The meeting was mostly held in executive session, with board members only present in the public meeting room for a total of two minutes to deliver information.
Members also refused to answer questions. Newly appointed board member Norma Ramirez walked away when approached and other board members left quietly through a back exit.
Ramirez, the Hidalgo County Democratic Party Chair, was appointed after Commissioner David Torres also resigned from the board on Tuesday.
