Edinburg majority appoints new EDC board member

EDINBURG — The Edinburg Economic Development Corporation has a new board member.

Edinburg Mayor Pro Tem David Torres resigned from the corporation Tuesday night, citing time constraints. Torres is currently in the middle of a re-election campaign, with former Edinburg Police Chief David White challenging him for the District 4 seat in November.

The council voted 3-1 — along the usual majority lines — to appoint Hidalgo County Democratic Party Chair Norma Ramirez to the post.

Ramirez, a lifelong Edinburg resident and local businesswoman, was sworn in as the new county chair in June 2018 after defeating her opponent, Danny Diaz.

Torres did not respond to a call for comment Tuesday night.
