An off duty deputy with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office was arrested over the weekend for allegedly assaulting a public servant.
Roberto Rivera was arrested by Palmhurst Police Department on Sunday, June 16, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.
County jail records show Rivera was charged with assault of a peace officer/judge and was released Sunday on a $20,000 personal recognizance bond.
Details of the incident that led to Rivera’s arrest were not immediately available.
The sheriff’s office stated he would be placed on administrative leave with pay pending an internal investigation as a standard protocol.
“I am committed to preserving the public’s confidence and trust in the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff J.E. “Eddie” Guerra stated in the news release. “We will continue to investigate any and all allegations of employee misconduct, and I will take the necessary and appropriate actions to maintain accountability and transparency to you, the citizens we serve.”
