Fleeing suspect dead after Brownsville PD opens fire

A man is dead after police opened fire when the suspect apparently rammed police units after leading authorities on a high-speed chase, authorities say.

Brownsville Police Department Spokeswoman Melissa Gonzalez said the suspect, who authorities have not named, led police on the chase at around 2 a.m. Monday.

The shooting happened on the 1100 block of Boca Chica Boulevard, authorities said.

After the shooting, police took the suspect to the hospital where he died, Gonzalez said.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Police are expected to issue a press release sometime later today.
