Former Edinburg lifeguard sentenced to 12 years for child indecency

EDINBURG — A former city lifeguard was sentenced to 12 years in prison for being sexually indecent with two minors at a municipal swimming pool in 2014.

Auxiliary Court Judge Romeo Flores sentenced Eddie Guadalupe Rodriguez, 22, on two counts of indecency with a child Tuesday.

The offenses occurred while Rodriguez worked at the South Park swimming pool in 2014, according to information from Hidalgo County officials.

The city’s human resources department administered a background check and drug test, but there were no negative marks on the report, which also included a motor vehicle check.

“He was convicted by a Hidalgo County jury on May 9 and sentenced on June 11,” lead prosecutor Denise Santa Ana said in a news release.
