Port worker dies; Two involved in May 14 accident

One of two men who were injured while working at International Shipbreaking/EMR Group at the Port of Brownsville on May 14 died of his injuries, according to the company.

Jorge Arturo Loredo Jr., 23, of Brownsville, died in San Antonio on May 22, according to his obituary. The accident is being investigated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

“We are saddened by the death and injury of our employees, and we express our deep condolences to the families,” the company said in a statement.

The company declined to provide additional comments, stating that commenting on a matter still under investigation “would be unfair to everyone.”
