Sharyland Pioneer won Game 1 of the Region IV-5A Championship series Thursday night 7-6 over Sharyland High to take a 1-0 lead in the best-of-three series.

Sharyland High went into the bottom of the seventh inning down 7-3 before scoring three runs to make the game come down to the final out.

Nearly 5,300 people packed the stadium to watch the battle of District 31-5A rivals, and close friends. The series winner advances to the Class 5A state tournament.

Game 2 in the best-of-three series will take place at 7 p.m. Friday at UTRGV Baseball Stadium in Edinburg. Check back later for the full game story and more.
