DPS investigating fatal crash near Edinburg

The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating a two-vehicle accident that left two people dead, according to a news release.

The crash happened at approximately 5:25 a.m. Friday on Farm-to-Market Road 1925 east of Cesar Chavez Road near Edinburg, killing Reynaldo Cardoza and Jose Garza, according to the news release.

A Chevrolet Suburban drive by Cardoza, 53, was traveling eastbound on the wrong side of FM 1925 when he collided head-on with a Chevrolet pickup driven by Garza, who was with his 13-year-old niece. Both men died at the scene, while the girl was taken to Doctors Hospital at Renaissance in Edinburg. The release states the girl was not in critical condition.

Cardoza was a resident of Edinburg, and Garza, 56, resided in Edcouch.

The crash remains under investigation.
