A Donna school district police officer “accidentally” discharged a firearm on Thursday afternoon at the Donna High School police substation, the school district confirmed Monday.
Three officers were at the substation when the incident occurred, but no one was injured or harmed, Donna Independent School District officials said via a news release issued Monday.
“School district policy does not allow us to release details involving personnel, however Police Chief Daniel Walden said the officer was placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a full investigation,” the statement said.
Walden, who was not available for comment Monday, indicated he was taking preventive measures to ensure other similar incidents do not occur.
The district, however, did not inform Donna High School parents until Monday.
“The full investigation isn’t complete yet,” Donna ISD spokesperson Sandra Quintanilla said, adding no further information would be released at this time as the investigation continues.
