‘A DREAM PLAY’

STC Theatre presents its final production of the season. In August Strindberg’s “A Dream Play,” the author has sought to reproduce the disconnected, yet apparently logical form of the dream. Time and space do not exist. Characters divide, double, redouble, evaporate, condense, float out of each other, and converge.

INTRO TO POI

Poi is a term used to describe a performance art and the equipment used to perform the art. It originated with the Maori people of New Zealand. The art involves swinging tethered weights in a variety of rhythmical and geometrical patterns. Poi can be made from different materials, handles, weights and effects (such as LED lights).

Otonana Trio arrive from Tokyo for the band’s sixth American tour, with shows in cities spanning from Alabama to California. The band has developed a loyal following as a must-see live act, with fresh craziness each time they return from their native island Japan. Some have discribed them to be the Japanese version of P-funk with a touch of Hendrix, Les Claypool, and Sheila E. The show is open to all ages. Also performing are Flacucho, The Kiskadees and a DJ set by Sergio Evolve Hernandez.

SUNDAY SPEAKER SERIES

Emma González published her first book “Field Mice: Memoirs of a Migrant Child” and “Field Mice: Memoirs of a Migrant Child” children’s edition in 2015, which told the story of her family’s true life migrant experiences during 10 tumultuous years in the 1950s and 1960s. González writes about her life, at the age of 15, when her parents finally settled in Edinburg. Her struggles continued, after the years as migrants decimated her family, and forced her to shoulder the family’s financial burdens after her father’s death. In the end, González draws strength from her past to survive this new, unsettling life.
