Mumps case confirmed at Weslaco ISD

The Weslaco Independent School District has confirmed a case of mumps, according to a district statement.

“The initial investigation indicates that the confirmed case had very limited contact with students and staff,” the statement read.

Weslaco ISD further stated that it is working with the Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department “to ensure” that any individuals who display symptoms of mumps follow-up with a health professional.

If other students or staff have been exposed, the district stated that it and the health department will “communicate directly with those individuals” and continue the investigation “in accordance with Texas Department of State Health Services and CDC protocols.”
