La Joya school district trustees named Gisela Saenz as the lone finalist for the superintendent position Tuesday, according to a news release.
Saenz has served as interim superintendent since Alda Benavides voluntarily resigned from the superintendent position on Feb. 25. Saenz began as a teacher with La Joya ISD, moving up to instructional supervisor, principal and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, according to the release.
The school board selected Saenz from over 20 applicants across the nation.
The district will enter a 21-day waiting period in accordance with state law, and at the end of the period the school board may consider approving her contract.
“La Joya ISD is a vibrant school district that provides many academic opportunities for students. I will work with the Board of Trustees and district leaders to continue our tradition of educational excellence,” Saenz said in a news release.
