La Joya school district trustees named Gisela Saenz as the lone finalist for the superintendent position.
Saenz has served as interim superintendent since former superintendent Alda Benavides voluntarily resigned from the position on Feb. 25. Saenz began as a teacher with the La Joya ISD, moving up to instructional supervisor, principal and assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, according to the news release. The school board has selected Saenz out of over 20 applicants from across the nation.
The district will enter a 21-day waiting period in accordance with state law, and at the end of the period the school board may consider approving her contract.
“La Joya ISD is a vibrant school district that provides many academic opportunities for students. I will work with Board of Trustees and District leaders to continue our tradition of educational excellence,” Saenz said in a news release.
