STXSD MUSIC FESTIVAL 2019 BENEFITING TROOPER MOISES SANCHEZ AND FAMILY

Eight bands are set to perform, including Buck ‘N Crazy, Drew & The Dancehall Dreamers, Draft, Mars Overdrive, Midnight Run, Spikes on the Road, Solitaire and Wreckless Texas. Proceeds assist the injured Texas state trooper and his family.

CASCARÓN

Decorate cascarones, or egg shells, with decorating materials provided by the museum. Guests are encouraged to bring their own baskets. Blank and pre-painted cascarones will be available for purchase, while supplies last, for $2 a dozen. The event will also feature a book presentation featuring UTRGV’s Book Buzz in the Courtyard Gallery and a special presentation featuring Sylvia Sanchez Garza, writer of the novel “Cascarones.” The event will end with a cascarón hunt in the museum’s Gran Paseo at 1:30 p.m., just outside the grand entrance. Sodas, lemonade and water will be sold by Girl Scout Troop No. 391 to raise money for the museum’s education department.

INTRO TO POI

Poi is a term used to describe a performance art and the equipment used to perform the art. It originated with the Maori people of New Zealand. The art involves swinging tethered weights in a variety of rhythmical and geometrical patterns. Poi can be made from different materials, handles, weights and effects (such as LED lights).
