The cities of Edinburg and Mission announced Wednesday morning that they were named finalists for the All-America City award. The Rio Grande Valley cities are two of 20 finalists and two of five Texas cities on the list.
The award, given to 10 communities each year, celebrates and recognizes neighborhoods, villages, towns, cities, counties, tribes and regions that engage residents in innovative, inclusive and effective efforts to tackle critical challenges, according to a news release from Mission.
It’s been 19 years since Edinburg was last awarded the distinction and, if it earns the award, it would be the city’s fourth.
