Report of rats closes Harlingen Burger King

HARLINGEN — The Burger King restaurant at 1902 S. 77 Sunshine Strip remains closed following the decision of the local franchise and Burger King Corporate after images surfaced of rats and mice in the kitchen.

According to reports, a former employee captured photos and videos of unsanitary conditions in the kitchen, including the presence of rats and newborn mice alongside bags of hamburger buns.

While the City of Harlingen Health Department did not have a role in the suspension of the restaurant’s operations, city officials confirmed the restaurant must be re-inspected before the establishment opens again to the public.

Efforts to obtain comments from Burger King were unsuccessful.
