Texas Rep. Ana-Maria Ramos proposed legislation on Tuesday to designate April 16 as Selena Quintanilla-Perez Day “in memory of the contributions to Tejano music,” according to the bill.

House Bill 2492 would call for Selena’s birthday to be “observed by appropriate ceremonies and activities.”

If passed, this would take effect Sept. 1, 2019, and the first observation of the date would be April 16, 2020.
