Palm Valley Animal Center received a $1 million donation from the PetCo Foundation earlier this month.

The contribution was part of a $14 million grant investment program the foundation manages annually.

The grant will be dispersed in $500,000 payments this year and in 2020.

Last year, PVAC began working toward reaching a “no-kill” status at its shelter. In order to reach their fundraising goal for that endeavor, it needs to raise about $1 million by the end of the year.

Since 1999, the Petco Foundation has invested more than $230 million in lifesaving animal welfare, working with more than 4,000 animal welfare partners.
