An active duty service member is dead after a car accident in Edinburg on Friday, according to a police news release.

Police responded to the crash in the 3400 block of North 24th Avenue at about 12:50 a.m. Cassandra Julianne Perez, identified in the news release as a 19-year-old service member, was standing outside of a gray Mitsubishi sedan when a brown 2003 Ford Mustang struck Perez and her vehicle, according to police.
