Man, 81, struck at Valley International Airport dies

John R. Dockendorff was struck on Friday and died later that night, police said Monday.

Sgt. Larry Moore said no charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle, who has not been named, but that a police investigation is continuing.

Moore said via email that the case is currently under investigation by the Harlingen Highway Unit and the Major Crimes Division.

The incident occurred at 11:40 a.m. Friday and police cordoned off the airport’s arrival and departure lanes for several hours.

The speed limit in this zone is 15 mph, but it is not known if excess speed was a factor.

Airport security cameras recorded the incident and were turned over to police investigators.
