Heavy winds have left thousands across the Valley without power, according to Lee Jones with AEP Texas.
Harlingen has 1,800 without power, as well as 1,450 in McAllen and 1,640 in San Benito. Jones said the estimate for power to return to Harlingen users was between 1 and 2 p.m.
“Most of this is going to be branches in falling into lines,” Jones said. “Or if we have a leaning pole, the lines might have some slack in them and they’re slapping together and they tripped a protective device.”
AEP is also working on three intersection lights without power in McAllen, according to a city news release.
Drivers should expect delays when using the intersections of Bicentennial and Harvey, 10th Street and Zinnia and 10th Street and Violet.
Jones said customers have three options to report outages: Call (866) 223-8508, visit aeptexas.com or use their mobile app.
