McAllen police, along with other local law enforcement agencies, will increase patrols for drunken drivers as the holiday season ramps up.
The annual impaired driver enforcement detail runs from Thursday through the end of the year.
Holiday periods are one of the most dangerous times for motorists in the state, McAllen police said in a news release, and many fatalities that occur during this time are due to intoxicated drivers.
McAllen police remind drivers to plan ahead if they decide to drink, designate a sober driver or find alternative transportation home.
“The bottom line, do not get behind the wheel if you have been drinking,” the news release reads.
Drivers are also reminded to watch their speed and wear a seatbelt.
