UPDATED: Victim of deadly Weslaco shooting identified

Update at 2:40 p.m.

WESLACO — The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday evening that left one man dead and another injured.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of a man down in the intersection of Farm-to-Market Road 88 and Mile 15 North Road at approximately 6:50 p.m. Sunday, said Deputy Jena Palacios Pacheco, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office.

Jesus Hinojosa, 22, died from his injuries and the other victim, also in his early 20s, is in stable condition.

This is the third homicide of the year HCSO is investigating. Investigators believe Sunday’s shooting stems from a drug-deal gone wrong.

The suspect remains at large. The suspect’s vehicle is believed to be a dark-colored SUV-type vehicle.
