McAllen library earns grant for free computer classes

McAllen Public Library is one of 22 libraries in the state awarded the Impact Grant through the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The money will fund an eight-week class next month, in English and Spanish, titled “Get Started with Computer Basics.”

The Impact Grant supports programs focusing on “business/workforce development and digital literacy; family and early childhood literacy; and electronic content access and delivery,” according to a library news release.

“This grant will allow us to give our users access to the tools they need to thrive in today’s economy, whether it’s business, workforce development, or electronic access to information,” said Library Director Kate P. Horan in the release.

The free course starts Wednesday, Nov. 28 and is three times a week.
