A $1.2 million Federal Emergency Management Administration grant will help the Edinburg Fire Department to hire 12 more full-time firefighters over the next three months, according to a news release.
“We have an obligation to serve,” Fire Chief Shawn Snider said in the release. “We have over 100 structure fires every year and we need about 25 people on the scene to effectively manage those incidents. This allows us to hire a major amount of people and FEMA helps pay for it.”
The initiative was approved Friday by the city council during a special meeting.
