Border Patrol: State contractors shot at while working near riverbanks south of Roma

U.S. Border Patrol officials confirmed Tuesday that unidentified “subjects” shot at contractors working along the banks of the river.

State contractors, who were working to eradicate carrizo cane along the Rio Grande in an area south of Roma, were not injured, according to a Border Patrol news release.

“The Rio Grande City Border Patrol station’s riverine unit safely extracted the contractors,” officials said.

The Texas Department of Public Safety is currently investigating the incident.
