Hidalgo County to activate its Emergency Operations Center, continue sandbag distribution

Hidalgo County Office of Emergency Management announced that it will open an Emergency Operations Center from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

“There is a 70 percent chance of the rain system in the gulf becoming a tropical depression with a possibility of dropping from 5 to 10 inches of rain and creating isolated incidents of flash flooding in some areas,” said Emergency Management Coordinator Ricardo Saldaña in a county news release. “The biggest threat to our area will be Thursday evening.”

Precinct offices are continuing to distribute sandbags at the following locations on Thursday:

9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Precinct 2

8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Precinct 3

9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
