Man arrested for firing shots he says were for possums

BROWNSVILLE — The police department arrested a 65-year-old man Wednesday night for shooting at some possums in his backyard.

Camilo Salinas was arrested without incident for discharging a firearm inside city limits.

Brownsville Police Spokesman J.J. Treviño said officers responded at 10 p.m. Wednesday to a shots heard call on the 1400 block of Northridge Drive.

“Officers made contact with complainant, where the complainant advised hearing shots next door,” he said.

After talking to Salinas, they confirmed the complaint, arrested the man and recovered a .380 caliber handgun.

Authorities could not determine whether any possums died or were just playing dead.

“No possums found,” Treviño said.
