Heat indices in the 100s expected this afternoon

The National Weather Service in Brownsville has issued a special weather statement advising residents to be aware of high heat indices today.

The NWS reports the heat index values of between 105 and 100 degrees are expected this afternoon. Some isolated areas could reach 111 degrees for an hour or two.

Residents with outdoor activities planned are urged to drink plenty of water, wear light weight and light colored clothing and take frequent breaks from the heat.

Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
