Mission police arrest man accused of running over officer

A man wanted for running over a police officer was apprehended Friday evening, according to Mission police.

Jose Cruz Lopez Jr. was arrested Friday at a McAllen apartment by Mission police and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

He was arraigned Saturday on aggravated assault of a police officer and evading arrest charges, and his bond was set at $5,500.

Lopez allegedly ran over a Mission police officer in the early morning hours of Friday, when Lopez broke free while the officer was handcuffing him.

A woman was also taken in custody with Lopez.

Darlene Cardenaz was arraigned Saturday on failing to identity a fugitive from justice and hindering apprehension. Her bond was set at $25,000.

Lopez and Cardenaz remain in custody at Hidalgo County Jail.
